Early morning thoughts

Call me odd, but I've never really liked the phrases "my girl" or "my woman". They imply that one would have some type of ownership over another, like "my iPod" or "my car", to me it almost sounds degrading to the girl involved. A girlfriend(or boyfriend) is an equal to the other, not by any type of ownership or agreement do they belong to each other, they belong to each other out of love and caring. Just some early morning thoughts.

  1. See that's just it though. If you belong to eachother because of selfish reasons then to say "my girl" sounds abusive. But if belong to eachother for unselfish reasons and put the other person above yourself, then to say "my girl" takes on a whole different meaning. In either case you do in a sense "own" eachother, but in the second it's a good thing. I look forward to the day when I can be in that kind of relationship and say to others, "that's my girl." You say "my friend" don't you?
