Success by Comparison

One of Paul's philosophies on life...

Success by Comparison

If you drive a beat-up rust bucket, don't park next to the Mustang or Lamborghini, park next to that one car in the parking lot that looks worse then yours. Essentially what you're doing is making your car look better, without actually doing any work.
The same thing works for friends. If you're dumb and ugly, don't hang out with smart and beautiful people who'll make you look dumb, hang out with people dumber and uglier then you*, become their leader, and take over the world(or at least a Wal-Mart). You'll make yourself look like a brilliant leader, without actually doing anything smart(besides following this advice).

*I don't necessarily follow my own advice, and I don't pick my friends based on looks or intelligence

  1. Yeah this works with cars but it'll backfire with friends for two reasons. Sure you'll look smart/good looking compared to your friends, but part of how most people define the success of a person is by looking at how successful their friends are. If you have idiots for friends then people assume you're an idiot too. (hang out with smart people and don't say anything, then you'll look smart ;-D) Secondly, if you hang out with idiots it will wear off on you to some degree. Likewise, hanging out with hyper-intelligent will bring out the brains in you.

So, just hang out with me everyday and by the time Fall rolls around you'll not only be perceived as a smart guy, you will be a smart guy!

    . . . or you'll just look like a dork.
